Switzerland: Day 5 (Lauterbrunen)

Tuesday, 13 September 2011

We took train to the snow capped mountain of Jungfraujoch.  Standing at 3,471 metres, Junfraujoch is the highest place in Europe.  The train took some time to reach the top, stopping at intervals so people could take pictures and adjust to the altitude.  By the time we got to the top, Sarah felt weak and nauseaus.

When we finally arrived, we walked out onto the snowy platteau and enjoyed stunning views on a beautiful, clear day.  During the month of September, the average temperature at Jungfrau is 0.2° Celcius, but strangely it had seemed much more cold in Iceland where the temperature was not as low.  Perhaps this was because in Iceland, it was windy and raining sideways.  We recently discovered that from this point, it is possible to see France, Italy and Germany.

Sarah Sarah had tried puffin in Iceland, but somehow it did not satisfy her desire to eat cute animals.  So on this evening, Sarah ate horse for dinner.
